look, i like stephen west
July 16, 2013
or to be more accurate,
his work, as we’ve never met.
we have corresponded a couple times
and he seems like a lovely person.
now, you all know me.
i am not one to utter any unkind word
especially against a tall, handsome, ginger-gay
who could probably take me in a scrap.
but this?*
this new “tripartite”?
this lace-weight linen thneed?
gurl. i know probably spent a lot of time on this,
and that linen probably tore up your fingers.
but no t no shade, not everything you knit
is a publishable design.
just sayin’.
she does know how to work her angles to her advantage though,
looking all young and thin and such.
#shadybitch
anyone is, of course, free to disagree with me.
you’d be wrong, but still, if you do,
you can purchase the pattern here
and join the other fools knitters
who’ve cast this on.
*you gotta click the links to see the pics.
normally, i’d snag them, but as they’re copyrighted,
you’ll just have to visit westknits’ flickr to see the madness.

lol…. this was exactly what I thought when I saw this… but didn´t dare to say it aloud, glad someone did

You are right, Bitch. He had a bad design day there.

looks like something that decided to get ripped apart in the wash machine and dryer, isn’t his best effort, colour is way off.!

And for most it will just become another banal swimsuit cover-up for middle aged female bodies…

Just because you can knit something doesn’t mean you should. On the other hand, it’s very Les Mis.

oh thank god someone said it. I thought it might be a joke, along the lines of ‘I’m so awesome I can do no wrong, let’s see if anyone even notices me being absolutely ridiculous’.
thanks again.

You are so right! When I first saw that, I thought that surely it was some kind of knitting joke that I just wasn’t in on. Guess not, huh? Oh well, they can’t all be wonderful.

Yeah, when I saw that, I thought, that is some weird as shit. Partner look at that photo line up and said, oh yeah, he’s gay. Hope that doesn’t offend you.

someone needs to say, “Stephen, that’s rubbish.”
and I meant, weird ass shit. not that you didn’t already know that.
July 17, 2013 at 1:20 am
Alright, I just went on to Ravelry. When you get rid of all the weird ass tassles, it actually looks quite beautiful. Stephen just chose poorly in his yarn and color. It’s also amusing to read the comments. Most I translate as, “this looks weird as hell, but I want to like it because you’re a good designer so convince me that you’re smarter than me.”

Stephen has definitely jumped the shark (just wait ’till you see the next collection in its entirety…), BUT, I believe that every designer goes through a phase of… TOO MUCH. They lose the grounding they once had, put out unwearable, ugly designs that leave you scratching your head. Hopefully, though, they come out of this phase, and come out stronger. We are witnessing Stephen’s growing pains, essentially.

Thneed *snort*. Those are some pretty hilarious pics.

That photoshoot! I don’t know why you’d ever want to leave yr ends, but I do love a drapey knit, and I think this person is really making it work: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sosu/tripartite

I saw the pattern briefly a while back, looked at the photos & thought WTF? Thneed is a good way of putting it, although I was heartened to see a project or two that made it look like an actual garment.

haha. You know why I like you? You’re bold and honest. The knitting world needs more like you so that ravelry can stop being inundated with bad patterns.
