so i’ve been waffling about whether or not i should mention this
not only on the blog, but even to people i know.
but i decided, why not.
i am a ‘writer in residence’ at the broad museum here at msu,
and tonight is my colleagues and my first public reading/performance.

Live Readings by the Broad MSU Writing Residents
Friday, January 31 |6–7 PM
Free and open to the public
The Broad MSU, in partnership with the MSU Department of English and the MSU Department of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures, is pleased to announce the Broad MSU Writing Residency! This residency features six graduate students who will create monthly public readings that respond to an art work on view at the Broad MSU, while utilizing core themes from the upcoming exhibition, Postscript: Writing After Conceptual Art. The live readings will begin at 6 PM, and will take place in the galleries alongside a corresponding work of art.
to say that i’m nervous i laughably inadequate.
i imagine this is the feeling a fox must feel
when chased by a pack of dogs.
so if you’re a knitter in the area,
i would love to see your face
knitting away
while we talk about art.
it might help me keep things in perspective
or at least keep me from vomiting.
*tip of the nib to adrienne martini for the title of this post,
which i’ve shamelessly appropriated.

I would happily come knit at you, but alas, I am too far away.

You got this.

Dammit Steven! If you hadn’t waffled, I could have come. Next time.

How exciting to have such an opportunity. I wish you the best this evening;.

Wish I could knit and listen. If you vomit it will be very memorable.

Good luck Steven! Not you’ll need it. I know you’ll kill it.

Sounds like a great night and I would definitely knit for you if San Francisco was just a teeny bit closer to MSU. No worries…you’ll be your usual amazing self, I’m sure.

Too far away to attend, but best wishes. You will do well, I’m sure.

I wish you had told us sooner, so I could have wished you the best. I know this is a Big Deal in your field. Hope it went well, and that your experience with this one makes the next one come off even better!

How’d it go? I’m assuming it was terrific, but figured I’d check.

I wish I had seen this yesterday! You will need to tell us earlier next time. I am in GR, but could visit friends there and knit and listen.

I hope all went well & there was no actual vomiting. Congrats!
