i did something reckless today

June 16, 2011

with my hospital bills all paid (i hope),
and electronic ink still drying on my lansing lease,
i should be squeezing my pennies like a scotsman.

so the first thing i do,
when assessing my funds?
i decide to make a purchase.

it was eight and four months ago,
when i learned to treadle steady,
and witnessed the power of twist.

i was hooked.
it was magic
worked by my fingers.
there was no going back.

it changed me.

a year is a long time to want something
wanting a thing for that long means
i make it my business to have it.

you can’t always get what you want, they say,
no matter how deep the desire.
true.

but this?
this wheel?
this i can make mine.

and i will have it.

layaway bitches!

**this post is dedicated to the über cool beth smith of the spinning loft. you should give her money for things. i did.

WOOO HOOOOO!!!! Congratulations! And I relate to the time-frame thing – I’d coveted the Addi Lace Clicks set since they first came out over a year ago and just finally got them in my hot little hands this weekend. The shawl-in-progress got switched over immediately and I am madly in love. (And nope, I don’t care one little bit if changing needles midstream changes the gauge – I’m going to have to block the snot out of it anyway.)

Some days just call for reckless.

It’s a beautiful thing and I am honored. I don;t think anyone ever wrote me a poem before. If you were closer I would hug you:-)

  3. Sarah Says:

YAY!!!!! So excited for you. I remember you talking about wanting to get a Matchless MONTHS ago, so it’s not like it was an impulse purchase. I wish you many many years of happy spinning!

  4. Audry Says:

I have always agonized over purchasing big ticket items. But if it is something you are going to use regularly, it is completely worth it. That wheel will improve your quality of life! (I mean, how could it not?)

  5. Tamara Says:

Now, all you need to do is think of a name for it! Congratulations!

  6. Kimberly Says:

    oooooooooooo I like the wheel!

Luckily I didn’t buy mine & got it as a Christmas gift, otherwise I would’ve never bought one. I had no clue, NO CLUE! He was obviously listening because he got the exact one I wanted. Ashford Traveler 🙂

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine. She is my pride but I know this, it’s hard to use the yarn you make for a project…I have so much just sitting there waiting for that one thing!
    xx

Once again, young Jedi, congratulations on the lease.

And you need to listen to that old song again. For after the phrase “what you want”, the lyrics continue: “But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need!”

I think you needed that wheel. Find it a good spot in your new home.

  8. Jenn Says:

Woohoo, congratulations! A year is a loooooonnnng time to wait.

  9. meg Says:

Congrats on your new wheel. And if you want, the local spinning guild meets at Woven Art on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 7-9pm. Not to be an enabler or anything!

  10. Hope Says:

    It’s lovely. Congratulations!
